Negreanu wades in to help Ivey
Negreanu gets involved
Daniel Negreanu, the 8 time WSOP bracelet winner has stepped in to support Phil Ivey in his war of words with Full Tilt Poker
The feud between Phil Ivey and Full Tilt Poker has gotten uglier and uglier and has captured the attention of poker fans everywhere. To add to the interest and gossip surrounding the affair, poker star, Daniel Negreanu has waded in to support his friend and colleague Phil Ivey. It all started on April 14 2011, known to poker players everywhere as Black Friday. This was the day that authorities in the United States ejected the big three poker websites, Full Tilt Poker, Absolute Poker and Poker Stars from the US market place and bolted the electronic doors shut behind them.
As a result of this all three of these companies had their domain names and bank accounts frozen. Although Poker Stars have paid their American clients their money back, Full Tilt Poker has yet to do so. Phil Ivey is a long time player and supporter of Full Tilt as well as even having some percentage points in the company. He was affected when fans asked for his help in getting their money back and has taken, what many see as a very courageous stand against his own sponsor. Ivey has divested from the site, boycott the 2011 WSOP and is suing Full Tilt Poker.
The response from Full Tilt was nothing less than vitriolic accusing Ivey of being self serving and having an agenda of his own. It was this level of vitriol that seems to have brought Negreanu into the fray. He says that Its interesting that Tiltware released a statement about Ivey being selfish but they had a month to release a statement about fundsThe Tiltware statement was shocking to me how low class it was. It wasnt surprising but it is really low class the way they handled it. He also added that he wouldnt walk these halls with a patch on for a company that is keeping people on the rail.
Meanwhile others poker stars are coming out against Full Tilt Poker with Eric Froehlich also supporting Ivey publicly. He said that he felt Ivey was making a stand for his own reasons and the benefit of other people, and I think its a good thing. Full Tilt are currently being sued by Clonie Gowen the Texan poker player who alleges that Full Tilt Poker promised her 1% of their site when it became profitable and failed to cough up the money, that case continues.
