Exciting tournament hosted by PokerStars has begun
$250,000 to be won
This year’s America’s Cup of Poker final rounds will take place in Argentina with the best American poker players going head-to-head for $100,000 top prize.
Poker players from all over the Americas have the chance to show off their skills in the America’s Cup of Poker tournament which is being hosted by PokerStars. The tournament is divided into two stages, the first online and the second a live tournament
The first part of the tournament will see players from sixteen different countries competing for three weeks in daily online tournaments. The online tournaments have buy-ins which range from freeroll up to $5.50. The tournament began a couple of weeks ago on Monday July 27th and will continue until August 16th. The online stage has been divided into four heats, each consisting of four countries; the games are open to any player from the countries participating in each heat. The top 100 finishers in each tournament will be awarded points.
Over the course of the three weeks each country will play against a different opponent and by the end all the participating countries will have played against each other. At the end of each week the country which has accumulated the most points over the week will be announced the winner. At the end of the online stage of the tournament the two countries which have the most wins each heat will progress to the live final.
The ski resort in Bariloche in Argentina will be hosting the final. There will be eight teams in the live final table and each team will be made up of the five players who scored the most points in the online qualifying events. Each team will also have a Team PokerStars Pro joining them. The final round of the tournament will be played in a team format with each team trying to get a share of the $250,000 prize pool. There is a guaranteed $10,000 for each team, but the winning team will take home a massive $100,000.
Although the final details of the live finale have not yet been published they are expected to be similar to the PokerStars event, the World Cup of Poker. The last World Cup was held at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure last January, it had a mixture of online qualifies, Tournament Leader Board winners and PokerStars pros. The event was structured in a tag team format which meant that members of each team rotated in and out of play and also shared the same chip stack.
